Free Family Event
Message from South West Orienteering Trekkers - South West Orienteering Event at Kingston on Sunday 31st January
South West Orienteering Event at Kingston on Sunday 31st January.
Start/Assembly area is at the old Kingston Sales Office, next door to the Kingston Super Deli
3.30 – 4pm Briefing and registration 4pm Start 5pm Finish 5 – 5.30 Rehydrate, Sausage sizzle, & compare routes, 5.30pm Announcements – Spot prizes & Results Participants can choose one of three courses:
Long – attempt to locate and record your visit to any 15 markers, within one hour (4 – 5pm). Winners are those who achieve this in the shortest time. Participants can choose to compete by running or to just walk.
Medium – attempt to locate and record your visit to any 10 markers within one hour (4 – 5pm) Winners are those who achieve this in the shortest time. Participants can choose to compete by running or to just walk.
Walkers – attempt to locate and record your visit to any 5 markers within one hour (4 – 5pm). There are no winners. Participants may run if they choose but there are no winners.
- The family dog is welcome if on a lead and if cleaned up after! - Prams and strollers will be able to take part. - Skateboards, bicycles, roller skates, etc. are not permitted. - Comfortable joggers, a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle are recommended. - A wrist watch is necessary so that participants can return to the Finish before 5pm. - There are no age criteria. - Participants may enter as individuals, in pairs or small groups. - We usually find that young children do not enjoy the activity if they are with parents who do all the navigation. Mum with one child and dad with another is better than a small group consisting of ‘2 parents and 2 children.’ - Registration for this event is Free, in return for the Lester Group’s sponsorship of the map. - Sausage sizzle $1 and drinks $1
